Major Announcements Imminent Regarding Australia’s Rotary Wing Industrial Capability

At press time it was clear that during the course of this edition, there would be several significant announcements made which would affect this country’s aerospace industry for decades to come.

The first project to receive official approval and project launch will be the previously reported (refer p84 Nov 87 AA) MDX medium helo from McDonnell Douglas Helicopters and Hawker de Havilland, MDX will ultimately be a MDH 500 Series successor though will be physically closer to the Bolkow Kawasaki BK117 and Agusta A109 in sizing. MDH research over the past three years has indicated a potential market for some 5000 machines in this class from 1990 through till 2005.
