Second Cross Report Thought Likely to Be Ignored by Minister

It is by no means certain that the Defence Minister, Mr Kim Beazley and the Federal Government will initiate action to implement the major recommendations of the second Cross Report.

The Report calls for a shakeup at the highest level of Australia’s Defence hierarchy with the supreme military commander-the Chief of Defence Staff (currently General Peter Gration) being given the major say in running the Defence planning organisation rather than the Secretary (currently Mr Alan Woods).
