Lufthansa Set to Maintain Air Freight Leadership

While most northern hemisphere international carriers were licking their wounds in 1986, West Germany’s Lufthansa was busy securing an even bigger share of the world air cargo market.

Nineteen eighty-six was a benchmark year for the German flag carrier. Not only did it see an increase in transatlantic passenger uplift by 15%, as against an industry decline of 6% owing to Chornobyl and Libya, but it took the crown from Japan Air Lines as the world’s biggest air freight operator.
