The decision of the Australian government to set up a national Space Board is timely indeed. Is is now becoming readily apparent that any nation claiming to be technologically advanced in the years ahead will have to have a developing and productive space industry.

Space is now affecting our day-to-day lives in more ways than we imagine; indeed its effects are so broad and commonplace that we literally take it for granted. The decision to examine the feasibility of developing a multi-million dollar launch facility and the establishment of the Space Board are both encouraging precursors to the potential good Australia can reap by its re-entry to the world of space.
