We’re receiving lots of enquiries regarding the purchase of handheld portable scanning receivers at Australian Aviation, with readers wishing to buy units that are small enough to take to airports and carry around the terminals with them, monitoring a variety of airband activity.

The best portable buys are the ‘Realistic’ PRO-30, available at Tandy stores and the Sony Air-7, or Air-8, available at Sony outlets. In the case of the Air-8, this model may only be available on import but is worth chasing due to the extra public service bands included.
