1986 Major Airline Directory

If orders for new aircraft are a sign of confidence in the future then this period has no parallel in the history of aviation in our Region. After recording sales of some A$2,000 million in the previous period it is quite phenomenal that a further A$4,300 million of aircraft should have been ordered over the past twelve months.

At present the Airlines in our Directory have an order or option a total of 111 aircraft, as follows; Air New Zealand-1747-200, 1 767-200; Air NSW-1 DHC8-200 plus 2 options, Air Queensland-3 ATR42-200; Ansett – 8 A320- 200 plus 9 aptions 24 737-300, 6 MD-83 plus 6 options, 22 Fokker F50; Newmans-2 DHC-200 plus I option: Qantas – 1747-300, TAA-9 A320- 200, 12 737-300. 3 Be Jetstream 31.

The majority of the orders have come from the two major domestic airlines in Australia, Ansett & TAA with further confidence in the World airline system by setting up Ansett Worldwide Aviation Services. Orders have been placed with Airbus Industrie, Boeing, McDonnell Douglas and Fokker so that they can offer a complete range of aircraft as well as management, crewing and technical assistance.
