The Douglas DC-3 family came into Its own in Australia in the period following the end of World War II. The experience gained with the type In Australia during the war years provided the stepping stone for a huge expansion of its use over the next decade.

The early commercial use of the ANA DC-3s prior to the outbreak of the war was dwarfed by its wartime contribution in Australia. However, the career of the DC-3 in Australia in the post war years was to further underline its unparalleled role in our commercial aviation history.
