Asian Defence Expo Highlights Emerging Military Importance of the Region

Asian Defence ’86 was held at the Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from February 18-26. The exhibition followed the Singapore Aerospace Exhibition held in January and many exhibitors proceeded on from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur.

Some 350 companies were represented at the exhibition, from Yugoslavia to Pakistan, from Western Europe to North America. A full range of military equipment was displayed, with a considerable amount of aerospace equipment.

Official visitors to the Kuala Lumpur exhibition included several overseas delegations including a large group from Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia and smaller groups from Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Oman, Turkey and Brunei. In support of their exhibitors, some nations sent military delegations with the British and Dutch sending high-ranking Ministers of State to support their nation’s products.
