Deadlines

A lot of our information is collected from discussions with pilots, AUF officers, dealers, Department of Aviation officers (usually unofficial), etc. In an attempt to provide you, the reader, with the latest information, in spite of our 5 weeks publishing lead-time, we sometimes report in anticipation on events which have a high probability of actually happening. Sometimes, we come unstuck with this approach. A good (or bad) example of this is shown in the next section.

AUF Update

In letters written last October to the AUF, the LAA and individuals, the Minister for Aviation has been adamant in expressing the views of his Department regarding the airworthiness requirements of ANO 95. 25. Contrary to what was reported in our last issue, there will not be any dispensations granted; we either have our aircraft type approved or we don’t fly them. The Minister stated further that in the 7 months since the introduction of ANO 95. 25 (18. 3. 85), not a single type had been submitted to the Department by the AUF (the only channel, according to the ANO) for approval. Surprise! Surprise. . ! We have heard estimates of the cost of type approval ranging from $10,000 for an existing aircraft, to $70,000 for design and approval for a new type (eg Thruster Gemini).
