United to Take over Pan Am NZ Routes

The imminent arrival of United Airlines on the former Pan American South Pacific routes has sent tremors through established carriers, not the least Air New Zealand, which suspected United was casting around for a way in.

The New Zealand company’s concern is not only the prospect of Intensified competition from a giant with cash to spare, but the probable loss of a valued business ally. Air New Zealand is United’s agent on home territory and is keyed into United’s Apollo computerised reservations system, the largest airline booking system in North America.
