A Dornier 228-100, in company with a 128-6model, have recently returned to West Germany following a gruelling 'summer period in support of Antarctic research The two aircraft logged more than one thousand hours without mishap which is a considerable achievement considering their remote and dangerous operating environment. Both aircraft reached Antarctica after an 18,750km ferry flight that also saw them crossing the Atlantic between West Africa and Brazil. The research team, and their Dorniers, will return this October for a longer mission lasting right through to March 1985,

Sikorsky to Produce Civil Version of Blackhawk Helo:
Sikorsky have come to realise that it is a shame to let a good airframe go to waste and have attained FAA Certification for their S-70C, a cargo-opted civil version of the UH-60 Blackhawk and S-70 Seahawk. The S-70C is powered by twin General Electric CT7-2C engines, has an empty weight of 10,138 lbs and a maximum speed of 162kts. Range is nearly 300 nautical miles with a 20-minute reserve Primary mission application would be in support of oil rigs and remote exploration bases where a heavy Bell 214-style uplift requirement exists
RAAF Order Will Boost Corporate Jet Scene:
Tenders closed in May for the RAAF’s high-altitude photo survey/mapping requirement. The RAAF are looking at acquiring one to two aircraft for this role which was formerly the domain of the Canberra bomber Aircraft competing for the order include the Falcon 50, Challenger 601, Gulfstream III, BAe 125-800, Westwind II and Lear 55. It is hoped that a short list will be announced by October with final decision being taken early in 1985
