Two Versus Three

A polarisation in two versus three crew on the flight decks of the world’s new generation airliners is setting in, following an apparent first-round win to the twos.

Australia’s domestics seem to have swayed on the side of three-man crews – TAA’s Airbus 310 has arrived with three crew spaces at the sharp end. Ansett’s Boeing 767s have been ordered in three-crew configuration, although a two-pilot version will be certificated later by Boeing for those who want one.
