Fairchild Swearingen Corporation has just announced a new Pratt & Whitney-powered 19-passenger Metro airliner. As this photo rendering illustrates, the new Metro 111A 1s to be powered by Pratt & Whitney PT6A-46 turboprop engines. This is the first time Fairchild Swearingen has offered its popular Metro series of airliners with a Pratt & Whitney engine. The first delivery 1s ant1c1pated for late 1983

General Aviation Performs
A report issued recently by Transport Australia shows that General Aviation aircraft flew 82. 4 of every 100 hours flown by Civil Aircraft during 1979/80. Over the past 10 years, the figure has grown from 72. 7 per 100 hours while hours flown by the airlines have dropped from 27. 3 to 17. 6. Australian General Aviation aircraft flew 1,767,650 hours during 1979/80. Hours flown in the various categories were as follows: Flying Training, 346,356 hours (19. 6 per cent): Charter, 330,701 hours (18. 7 per cent):
Private Flying, 273,360 hours (15. 5 per cent): Business Flying, 271,673 hours (15. 4 per cent); Aerial Work, 252,834 hours (14. 3 per cent), Commuter Airlines, 128,110 hours (7. 2 per cent): Aerial Agriculture, 123,417 hours (7. 0 per cent): Test and Ferry, 41,205 hours (2. 3 per cent).
