Interview – Bill Astling

A proposal to introduce one or two civil Hercules freighter aircraft for special charter cargo operations around Australia and the neighbouring region is the latest brainchild of Bill Astling. Bill: whose court battle with Ansett over Ansett’s injunction to stop it from importing Carvairs for domestic freight services is well known, is confident that his new Cargomasters venture will prosper. The introduction of the aircraft has been delayed by almost a year by certification requirements, but despite widespread scepticism about the validity of the program, Mr Astling is confident these will be in operation by August. John Spiers asked him how he came to see this market for the Hercules when nobody else currently can.
