John Perry Evaluates the Cougar, Seminole and Duchess

Gulfstream American’s GA-7 Cougar, born through what was virtually a toss-up between a light twin and folding gear on the then Gruman American Tiger single, has been much maligned by many evaluation pilot/writers in this country and other nations.

More than enough has been written about the Cougar’s asymmetric performance when compared with others in the light twin range, in this country.

Truth is that none of the current breeds of light twins have a startling single-engine performance; the Cougar is listed in early brochures as having the best, but Operating Handbook figures show the Gulfstream American twin as the poorest performer of the three types currently in Australia.
