Air Force Flight Testing

Early in the Second World War the need was recognised for a specialised unit for performance, acceptance and development testing of RAAF aircraft. From this evolved the present flight testing organisation of the RAAF, Aircraft Research and Development Unit which was relocated in December 1976 from RAAF Laverton, Victoria to RAAF Edin­burgh, South Australia.

Other government agencies and industry provide the majority of research, development, test and evaluation effort of technical equipment for the Australian armed forces.
