Across 2024–26, Asia Pacific Aerospace will perform a series of overhaul repairs on Black Hawk T700 engines flown by various international users at its regional maintenance facility in Pinkenba, Queensland.
Once complete, the $200 million Deep Maintenance and Modification Facility (DMMF) will be 240 metres long, 60 metres wide and 25 metres high and be capable of servicing larger aircraft based on the commercial Boeing 737.
Wing Commander Phil Parsons, the first non-Boeing pilot to take part in the testing, executed commands such as making the aircraft climb, descend, accelerate, and decelerate.
The in-country facility, situated within the city’s airport precinct, will be one of only two in the world capable of producing Naval Strike Missiles (NSM) and Joint Strike Missiles (JSM).
It comes after Lockheed Martin beat Northrop Grumman last year to win the $765 million contract to revolutionise how Australia monitors and shoots down incoming missiles.
