Owner Aeria Management Group (AMG) will pour $50 million into a new aviation hub with as many as nine new hangars, plus $80 million into a mixed-use precinct with retail and industrial facilities. AMG plans to release the two Major Development Plans in 2024.

Vietjet will fly daily from Ho Chi Minh City to Melbourne and Sydney starting 1 December, and five times per week between Ho Chi Minh City and Brisbane starting 16 December. This follows last month’s announcement of five weekly flights to Perth and Adelaide starting 21 November.

The green aviation company will use the grant from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to develop hydrogen fuel cell technology, enabling Vertiia to reach a range of up to 1,000km for applications such as emergency services as well as passenger and cargo transport.

Starting on 27 October 2024, Sydney will see an additional daily 777-300ER flight at 6:45am, while Adelaide will have a new 787-10 service on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, taking its SIA services to 10 per week. Both will be available for the six-month northern winter period.

The airline will not fly between Auckland and Hobart from 5 April to allow for necessary maintenance on the engines powering its A320neo and A321neo aircraft, which is needed due to a “rare condition” involving the powder metal used for certain parts.
