WWII Spitfire pilots, ground crew and the men and women in support roles of the aircraft are to be celebrated at the Australian Spitfire Association’s 60th Anniversary dinner and aerial display.

Members of the Olyroos and the rugby Sevens male Olympic teams reportedly spent much of the 9.5 hour flight from Tokyo to Sydney ignoring the directions of flight attendants and raiding alcohol from the galley, which has sparked further investigations.

Performing flight 5003, the 55-year-old aircraft, registration UR-CGV, landed at Wellcamp on Tuesday following an overnight flight from Indonesia and a stop-over in Cairns.

Speaking exclusively with Australian Aviation, a Qantas spokesperson confirmed that all 2,500 staff members that were stood down today would be eligible for relief payments, either under the government’s lockdown disaster payment scheme, or through the newly-introduced aviation support payments.

The review will essentially look to investigate whether or not actual noise and aircraft operations following the opening of the new runway are in line with what was modelled in earlier flight path design and environmental assessment processes.
