Unblocking the talent pipeline

As aviation and aerospace struggle to recruit new talent, and gender parity seems light years away, industry organisations like Aviation/Aerospace Australia are working with government and professionals to encourage more young people into the sector, as A/AA chief executive Anntonette Dailey tells Australian Aviation.

AA: Can you tell us about Aviation/Aerospace Australia and some of your key focus areas?

Anntonette Dailey: Aviation/Aerospace Australia is actually 16 years old. We’re a purpose-led, values-based membership organisation for the aviation, aerospace and space industries. We actually started out as a Victorian government initiative way back in, I think, 2010, to very much respond to issues that were affecting the aviation and aerospace sectors, and also to consider the talent back then – it was very clear that there was a talent and a skill shortage, and just how to respond to that. We’re now a very strong membership-based organisation, with about 50 members covering aviation, aerospace and the space industries more broadly, employing thousands of people. So, it’s wonderful to be in a purpose-led organisation that very much has its values around sustainability, the gender pipeline, and, of course, the normal issues these industries face.
