The CAC Boomerang is Australia’s only home-designed and manufactured fighter. In this exclusive extract from his new book, Don Williams tells the story of how this quiet legend proved its doubters wrong in service with the RAAF.
The start of the war in September 1939 created an enormous demand for trained aircrew. Australia initially focused on supporting Britain’s war effort via its participation in the Empire Air Training Scheme. The training demand surged again when hostilities with Japan erupted in December 1941.
