Opinion: Just another piece of kit? UAS in the Gaza conflict

For both sides of the Gaza conflict, uncrewed systems are playing an increasingly important role, from direct combat operations to intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.

Unlike the conflict in Ukraine, which is dominated by vast open steppes interspersed with urban areas, the conflict in southern Israel and Gaza is vastly different and, in many ways, is predictive of future conflicts dominated by complex, congested urban environments.

The complexity of the physical operating environment is further compounded by the challenges in identifying combatants and protecting civilians from the hazards of collateral damage.
