Western Sydney gets set with its first jet

The morning was crisp and the winds were biting, but nothing could take away from the excitement as the NSW Rural Fire Service’s (NSW RFS) Large Air Tanker, N138CG “Marie Bashir”, executed a textbook landing on the runway at Western Sydney International Airport – the first jet aircraft to see its wheels kiss the tarmac at Australia’s newest gateway, which is set to open next year.

“It feels great. It’s not often you get to be the first jet to land at an airport,” co-pilot Michael Hayes told Australian Aviation. “It’s a privilege that we can do this, especially with the RFS aircraft. It’s great community support that we have with the aircraft, and it’s good that we can be a part of this process.”
