Warbirds #395 | Aircraft restorations and a royal welcome
King and Queen offered a true royal welcome with Sydney Harbour flypasts
On their first official visit to Australia since their 2023 coronation in October, His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Camilla were treated to a spectacular display of Australian Defence aviation capabilities above the gorgeous Sydney Harbour (see above). As King of the Commonwealth, King Charles holds a slew of honourary titles in the Australian military, most recently being appointed by the Governor-General of Australia as an honourary Marshal of the Royal Australian Air Force.
On 21 October, demonstrations of honour and respect began in Canberra with a ceremonial welcome and a 21-gun salute. The following day, after being airlifted by ADF resources from Canberra to Sydney, the King performed a fleet review of five Royal Australian Navy warships in Sydney Harbour. He was then treated to the aerial display of numerous aircraft, including a Royal Australian Navy MH-60R Seahawk Romeo helicopter, an Army S-70 Blackhawk, two RAAF F-35A Lightning IIs, an F/A-18F Super Hornet, and an EA-18G Growler, among others.
