The passing of Bob Eastgate
It is unfortunate to record the passing of Bob Eastgate. He is best known as the owner of CAC-built Mustang, VHBOB. Robert Leslie (also known as Bill or Bob) Eastgate passed away on 2 July after a long battle with MND. He was aged 79. Bob, as he was almost universally known, was one of the founders of the Australian warbird movement.
He managed to recover the CAC-built CAC CA-18 Mk.21 Mustang, previously A68-104, from Jerilderie, NSW, on 26 March 1973. The aircraft was rebuilt and made its first rebuild flight on 26 February 1976 with Jack McDonald as the pilot.
