Time to look back
2020 and the new decade is here. With that in mind it is a good time to look back on a few things of interest that have happened in the last ten years.
For many years there has been discussion about the impending pilot shortage. Well we seem to now have a real situation where there is an expanding airline system of low-cost carriers and yes there is increased demand for pilots. But not just rookie pilots. A few recent airline accidents have the right seater being a very low time pilot and little or no help and even a hindrance to the captain when needed. What is needed is new pilots but with experience. It is all very well for airlines to say that they are running their own flight schools (at the expense of the trainee!) but they will still end up with a guy or gal with maybe 150-200 hours. Kindergarten experience.
