Opportunity Knocks

New impetus to change the gender imbalance

It might be a simple indication but it’s an indication nonetheless: in the past six years just one key Australian university offering degrees allied to aviation has seen its cohort of women students increase from 20 per cent (2013) to 25 per cent (2016) and now close to 33 per cent of the overall intake.

At the same time there has been a growing awareness of industry-wide opportunities, key support from major airlines to encourage more women into aviation, and a strengthening of women-orientated networks such as the Australian Chapter of Women in Aviation International and, more recently, the launch of the Australian Airports Association Women in Airports Network (WIAN).
