Taking it to the MAX
Speculation is a dangerous beast
The loss of a second Boeing 737 MAX so soon after the Lion Air tragedy predictably sent the aviation world into overdrive and with it, the mass media. As always, it will be a challenge to decipher between fact and fake news that leaks across the internet, but there is also an opportunity to consider how the industry has addressed this issue that has grounded the type worldwide.
The second investigation is still in its infancy but an official preliminary report highlights apparent parallels between the two MAX accidents: two new aeroplanes lost soon after takeoff with what appears to be not dissimilar flight profiles. As with any airliner accident, the loss of life is significant and, unfortunately, that is too often the only lure for mainstream media to find in aviation.
