Australia returns to combat aircraft design and development
Avalon 2019 Review
There may not have been the hype around the arrival of the first F-35 Joint Strike Fighters that anchored the 2017 Airshow, but Avalon 2019 more than held its own — to the point where chief executive Ian Honnery declared it “one of the most successful yet. ” First the news that Australia would design and build a high-performance unmanned military aircraft. Then the rare announcement at an Avalon of a significant commercial aircraft order — against the background of new partnerships on research and defence, and contracts signed for training, maintenance and logistics services.
And all this before the public walked through the gates for the most spectacular flying display in the southern hemisphere.
