Celebrating 50 years of the Australian P-3
When the first Lockheed P-3 Orion took flight on November 25 1959 from Burbank, California, I doubt anyone foresaw that it would become one of the most successful military aircraft to grace the skies.
And when the Royal Australian Air Force received its first P-3B Orion, tail number A9-292, on January 13 1968, little did anyone know that in 2018 the type would still be flying and celebrating a half century of distinguished service. Or that it would become a multirole platform in the truest sense of the word, operating from Antarctica to Afghanistan and everywhere in between.
