Juggling customers’ needs with a healthy bottom line is the challenge for NZ’s regional airlines

With a landmass that is small enough to fit three times inside New South Wales’ borders, and a small population by world standards of 4.7 million – 30 per cent living in one city – operating a regional airline in New Zealand is not for the faint of heart.

With its North and South Island divided by a strait with another separating its third and smaller Stewart Island, it also has sparsely populated islands off its coastline that need air connectivity with the mainland.
