Preparing for journey’s end

For every take-off there has to be a landing. When one thinks of an arrival at the base or destination airport the thought is usually just one of the circuit, flaps, speed and touch-down. But there is more to the arrival than that.

Without making a meal of it the arrival should be a planned exercise. If a local flight the pilot needs to think about how to approach the circuit and what heights are required. Are there any inbound reporting points and special procedures?
