The talk is not yet over
The politics of Badgerys Creek
I’m unlikely to be accused of being a Tony Abbott fan. But I do admire the fact that he got on and made a firm decision to proceed with the development of a second Sydney Airport at Badgerys Creek.
“I accept that we do need to do something about airport capacity serving Sydney. I absolutely accept that,” Abbott, as opposition leader, told a leaders’ debate with then PM Kevin Rudd during the August 2013 election campaign. “We cannot go on for another decade the way we have over the last six years and we’ve had a government which has not advanced us one inch, one yard over the last six years on this. Just a few weeks ago the Infrastructure Minister said that a decision would be made in the next term. Well, I will make a decision on this in a term of government, should I get in. ” And make a decision he did.
