Qantas orders Dreamliners and posts return to profitability

Liam Straughan says: This is absolutely wonderful news. This confirmation only further allows Qantas to catch up and compete effectively with its fellow large-scale international airlines with a new, modern, efficient and comfortable fleet of aircraft.

Peter R says: Well I’ll be damned, Alan Joyce said that once Qantas International was profitable again, that he’ll order the Dreamliner……and guess what? He’s a man of his word.

DM says: So where are all those QF and AJ bashers now…. ??? A little bit quiet NOW aren’t you?? Great job QF, here is to a sustainable future with growth, nice to hear some good news for a change…. Although I’m sure the QF haters (aka the media) won’t take long to put a negative spin on results…. .

Grant McHerron says: It’s amazing what can happen at Qantas when Joyce and the senior team stop running around with crazy ideas like RedQ and actually get on with running an airline. The past year or two has seen a major change in QF management’s approach and it is paying off. Between the focus on basics, the cuts and the hook up with Emirates, they’re finally starting to turn the corner. Who knew? 🙂

Lockheed’s “Team 21” finally confirmed as AIR 5428 winning bidder

Oldmate1 says: Nice aircraft, the PC-9 served the RAAF well. Not sure about the BFTS base location. With over 60 per cent more rainy days a year than Tamworth and a bird population to match the Amazon it can’t have been the flying aspects of flying training that made Sale tempting. Maybe RAAFies are keen to live there… Tamworth

must be very happy for the approximately 162 people who will have jobs now in Sale. Nice aircraft though….

Mark says: I’ve lived in Tamworth and more recently Sale. Tamworth’s weather is sunnier but possibly too consistent, fine if all you want is fair weather pilots. Tamworth is okay. Terrain around Sale is more variable, only a short flight between the Victorian alps and the sea. Both places are held by the National Party so zero sum game from that point of view. Perhaps it was a rational decision?

Townsville Airport welcomes arrival of Jetstar’s Bali service

Qing Gü says: Three a week Bali flight that departs 10:55pm and arrives 9:30am is just horrible for pax in Townsville. We need an Air NZ flight to Auckland or a Cathay flight to Hong Kong ASAP.

Jeff Atkinson says: What to do with aircraft after hours? Use them on short-haul internationals, and then put them back into the Australian system whether it be Townsville to Perth or wherever. Great use of aircraft on off hour circuits.

Virgin’s push for Perth

Slade Patman says: I think the move by Virgin at Perth is a very smart strategy and a real point of difference to the status quo that exists with Qantas. Its existing international codeshare relationships with Etihad, Singapore, South African & now Tiger should hopefully allow for some seamless regional/domestic/international transfers via their new Virgin domestic pier, potentially turning Perth into a ‘western hub’.

Qantas domestic will continue to be stuck across the way at T3 and T4 and much like Sydney and Brisbane will be a non-user friendly domestic international transfer set-up via a lengthy bus trip.
