Australia has lost yet another regional airline, with Cairns-based Skytrans voluntarily shutting up shop

It perhaps says something about the viability and importance of direct air services from Cairns to Cape York communities in Far North Queensland that local airlines have enthusiastically stepped in to fill the gap created when Skytrans closed its doors after 25 years of flying.

Skytrans chief executive Simon Wild chose the day after the airline’s quarter century milestone to announce he was shutting down the carrier in order to protect his staff’s entitlements and superannuation.
