Should Qantas International return to government ownership
The talk of another equity bid for Qantas would appear to be more about what a deal might bring to the so-called financial wizards rather than what is best for Australia’s national airline. Earlier this year John Singleton, who was part of the old APA bid, was quoted in the Sydney Morning Herald: “Qantas, if you bought all its shares for $1 billion tomorrow, you’d have $3 billion in cash in that company. Cash. It costs you $1 billion to buy $3 billion – is that a good deal or not?”
Indeed it is, but for who – not for the country!
