
50 YEARS YOUNG On April 12 2002 Boeing marked the 50th anniversary of the first flight of the B-52.

• A ceremony at Wichita, Kansas on April 12 by Boeing and the USAF celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress. First flown on April 15 1952, a total of 744 B-52s of all models were built. The structural life of the B-52 airframe has been extended to at least the year 2040 through a Boeing service-life exten-sion program with 94 B-52Hs remaining in service.
