• September 11 2001 was a defining moment in modern history. In an unparalleled act of terrorism, four airliners on flights within the United States were highjacked and used as the weapons of destruction. At 0846 hours American Airlines Boeing 767-223ER N334AA struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York between the 88th and 98th floors; at 0902 hours United Airlines Boeing 767-222 N612UA was flown into the South Tower of the WTC between the 77th and 87th floors; at 0940 hours American Airlines Boeing 757-223 N644AA flew into the side of the west wing of the Pentagon in Washington DC; and at 1010 hours United Airlines Boeing 757-222 N591UA crashed into wooded country near the borough of Shanksville, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, after an apparent struggle between the passengers and hijackers.
