With the recent strikes on Libya by United Nations led NATO forces, it was interesting to note a stay of execution had been granted to the RAF’s Nimrod R1 ELINT/SIGINT force so it could participate in the venture.

The UK’s coalition government has, under last year’s Strategic Defence & Security Review (SDSR) process, ‘chopped’ the RAF’s and RN’s remaining Harrier aircraft, two of the RN’s three Invincible class carriers, and the Nimrod MRA4 maritime ISR program.
