Qantas has plenty to celebrate as it marks the 90th anniversary of its foundation in November 1920, as it has been a remarkable journey.

Hudson Fysh and Paul McGinness could in no way have conceived what the company they founded would one day become, but they saw the potential of aviation to break the tyranny of distance, and that is something that Qantas has been very successful at doing for the 90 years since, whether that be flying airmail to Singapore in rickety DH. 86 biplanes, flying nonstop from Perth to Sri Lanka in Catalina flying boats during WW2 in strict radio silence, pioneering jet services across the Pacific with 707s in 1959, or taking delivery of its first 747-400 via a record breaking nonstop flight from London to Sydney in 1989.
