Qantas’s Shrinking Intl Marketshare

It’s some years back now that then Qantas CEO Geoff Dixon famously drew a metaphorical line in the stand stating that, following the collapse of Ansett and the rise of Virgin Blue, Qantas would defend a 65 per cent share of the Australian domestic airline market. In the years since Qantas has been quite successful in defending that Dixon line, in large part thanks to the rise and rise of its Jetstar low cost carrier division.

But for international marketshare it is an entirely different story. In 1999 Qantas had a 35 per cent share of all international passenger arrivals and departures.
