Basic Flying Training School
Learning the basics of flight
BAE Systems Flying Training Australia and the ADF Basic Flying Training School (ADF BFTS) are located in the NSW New England centre of Tamworth, about an hour’s flying time north of Sydney.
Students come to Tamworth either to undergo an intensive two-week Flight Screening Program (FSP) to determine their suitability for entry to an ADF flying training program, or for the 26 week Basic Flying Training (BFT) component of their fledgling ADF flying career. The school also represents a unique partnership between the ADF and the defence industry, which could provide some pointers to the future of military pilot training in Australia.
