• At a news conference on April 29 the Kazakhstan Defence Ministry said that the Indian Air Force wished to purchase 40 MiG-21, MiG-23 and MiG-25 fighters from Kazakhstan which were inherited after the Soviet Union collapse in 1991.
• The first Lockheed Martin Block 52 F-16C/D, 638, for the Republic of Singapore Air Force, was handed over at Fort Worth on April 9. The aircraft was the first of eight F-16C- 52Ds and 10 F-16D-52Ds ordered in 1994. The aircraft has an enlarged spine believed to contain self-protection jamming equipment similar to the Elisra SPS 3000 installed in Israeli DF/AF F-16D-30s.
