The Staaken Flitzer is a remarkable aeroplane – the only biplane I know of that will not only fly, but actually flies really well, behind the puny power of a VW Beetle/Bug car engine. And its handling is delightful: light, nimble and responsive.
The brainchild of British aviation artist and lifelong aeronautical enthusiast Lynn Williams, the Flitzer is a modern design but with a distinctly period flavour, masquerading as a 1920s German sport biplane of Great War layout.
