• The remaining 21 Chipmunk T. 10s in British military service were retired with the conclusion of the final Army Air Corps course at Middle Wallop, Hampshire on March 27. These were the last Chipmunks in operational military use in the world.
• Two Albanian People’s Army Air Force pilots from the 4020 Regiment at Tirana/Rinas requested political asylum after they landed in their two-seat Shenyang FT-2 (MiG-15UTI) at the Italian Air Force base at Leece/Gatalina. The aircraft had been detected by Italian radar and was tailed by an Italian fighters prior to the unauthorised landing.
