Richmond is a massive aviation facility by any standard as depicted here in our Bicentennial airshow pie of heavy jets parked upon its spacious hardstandings. Construction of a cross 4000m runway and appropriate civil terminal and support infrastructure on vacant land to the west of the airfield could be accomplished cheaper and quicker with less environmental problems than at probably any other site.

Goodbye Badgery’s?
Once more Sydney seems to be headed towards the fate of the seemingly ageless game of ‘let’s find an airport site’. Transport Minister John Sharp has made it clear that while Badgery’s Creek remains the favoured option, the EIS currently ramping up for the much maligned future airport will probably see it hosting driveways rather than Boeings in the year 2010.
Noise profiles, fog, terrible transport links and a dozen other problems are rapidly making Badgery’s an unattractive proposition in the decades long search for a backup to Kingsford-Smith.
