Out with the Old, in with the New at Tamworth According to Airservices Australia, "the new tower is being built to satisfy safety and operational requirements and cater for future traffic growth. The existing tower was built in 1954 and is now inadequate to service the increasing traffic at Tamworth Airport. Unless the new tower is built, existing air traffic services would have to be restricted to ensure the aerodrome operates safely. The new control tower will enable the provision of an air traffic separation service which cannot be provided effectively from the existing tower, which is poorly located in relation to the recently constructed parallel runway."
