McDonnell Douglas employees install wiring, tubing and other parts to the prototype MD-95 100-seat jetliner at Long Beach. Longer Range 777
Boeing is looking at developing an ultra long-range 777-200 variant as a possible alternative to the currently planned short-bodied -100X. The -100X is intended also to have a very long range capability, but operators have indicated a preference for a variant combining that capability with increased seating capacity and therefore lower seat-kilometre costs. An ultra long-range 777-200 variant could be in service a year earlier than the -100X, but there is some concern among potential customers that it might clash with the proposed 747-500X.
