Rnzaf Recruits Overseas Pilots

The RNZAF is being forced to look overseas to recruit pilots, because of the growing number of its aircrew leaving the service to work with the airlines. An alarming 37% of the RNZAF’s 90 flight lieutenant-ranked pilots have asked for early release from their contracts in the last five months, indicative of the high pilot attrition rate. While the RNZAF has increased local recruiting efforts, it is seeking to recruit trained military pilots from overseas, particularly from Britain and Canada, where military cutbacks have left a surplus of trained aircrew. Australia too is experiencing similar problems, and the RAAF is also recruiting overseas pilots.

Ardmore & Paraparaumu Airfields Sold

Both Ardmore and Paraparaumu airfields were sold recently to separate consortia, for $NZ3.42m and$NZ1.65m respectively. Ardmore, Auckland’s GA airport and the busiest airport in New Zealand, was sold to a grouping of investment firms Tramco Holdings and Accent Management, plus Waiheke Airfield Ltd, who plan to make improvements to the 157 hectare site. Meanwhile Paraparaumu airfield was sold to Kapiti Avion Holdings, a consortium of Kapiti Coast businessmen Murray Cole, William Doak, Brett Mainey and David Hayward. Murray Cole owns Antares Aerospace, which leases a site at Paraparaumu, while William Doak is a principal in Heli NZ, and owns a Bell JetRanger based at the airfield.
