USAF To Deploy Second-Generation Stealth Strike Fighter

The Lockheed F-117A Nighthawk stealth fighter captured the world’s imagination during the 1991 Gulf Campaign, when these capable aircraft penetrated Iraq’s most heavily defended airspace with impunity, destroying their chosen targets with pinpoint accuracy. The F-117A is a first-generation stealth aircraft, designed using the faceting technique, a method based upon geometrical optics. However, it has limitations in radar cross-section performance, as well as unspectacular payload radius performance stemming from its draggy geometry.
